ff00ff Concert Poster

Limited palette ready-to-print poster

A local Tacoma performing artist by the name of “f00f” allowed me to create concepts for a poster for a project. The goal was to create a large, performance artist/musician poster that could be used at a moment’s notice and be professionally printed with a limited palette of 2 colors to reduce cost of production.

After creating a few initial concept sketches to choose from that included their on-stage character (featuring a wonderful computer head), the concept I went with was actually inspired by a tattoo they have, featuring multicolored hexagons. I felt this also exemplified the ‘computer’ theme I was going with, as I know that their name “f00f” is also a hex code of their favorite color. Of course, I planned on using this very hex code as one of the colors on the poster.

After critique and choosing the final concept, I went straight ahead to Illustrator, and optimized the document settings to be print ready. With only 2 colors, and the use of the multiply tool among a few others, I began production. I went with a green color to complement the magenta tone in a fun, eye-catching way to inspire feelings of energy and excitement.

I utilized straight lines and geometric shapes to further present the concept of technology and computers to represent their stage persona: a sweet, energetic fun-loving computer-headed humanoid, and their indie electro-pop music.

Aside from simply having a ton of fun creating this poster, I was able use my skills to create an eye-catching poster that the client loved, gain experience and knowledge of working with a real client, and learned how to optimize a document for a printable product that may have a smaller production cost constraints.
